Path of Exile 2 is packed with bosses that will absolutely test your patience and your build, and if you are looking for "The Warden," you might actually be looking for one of two completely different fights.Depending on where you are in the game, you are either hunting down
Oswin, the Dread Warden for some sweet extra passive skill points, or you are staring down
Zicoatl, Warden of the Core, the massive final boss of Act 3.Here is a practical, no-nonsense breakdown of how to track both of them down and, more importantly, how to take them out without burning through all your portals.1. Oswin, the Dread Warden (The Optional Side Boss)If you are trying to maximize your character's power, you cannot skip Oswin. Defeating him rewards you with +2 passive skill points. Because it is an optional side quest, he is tucked away in a specific corner of the map.How to Find Oswin
- Teleport over to the Halton Waypoint and start heading east.
- Keep an eye out for the entrance to an area called Wolvin Halt. You will know you are in the right place when you see a chilling message on the ground that reads, "Blood is his price."
- Push your way through the open areas toward the northern side of the map. You will have to defeat a mini-boss named Rio the Bloodthirsty along the way. Once Rio is down, look for a nearby cave entrance—Oswin is waiting just inside.
The StrategyOswin is slow, but he hits like a truck. The key here is patience and environmental awareness.
- Watch Your Step: The arena is rigged with floor spike traps. Keep a close eye on the floor for glowing holes. The second you see them light up, step away before the spikes shoot out and chunk your health bar.
- Back Off for the Cold Blast: When Oswin hits certain health thresholds, he will pull out a massive bell and strike it with his axes. This triggers a huge cold explosion and leaves persistent ice spikes scattered all over the floor. When you see him start to swing at the bell, back off immediately and give him some space.
- Bait and Punish: Because Oswin moves and swings quite slowly, his heavy axe slams have a long recovery time. Wait for him to commit to a big swing, dodge out of the way, and use that brief window while he is stuck in the animation to unload your highest-damage skills.
2. Zicoatl, Warden of the Core (The Act 3 Main Boss)Zicoatl is a completely different beast. As the final progression boss of the "Legacy of the Vaal" questline, you cannot miss this fight—it is required to progress through Act 3.How to Find ZicoatlYou don't need to go hunting for this one. Just follow the main Act 3 story arc and complete the "Legacy of the Vaal" quests. The game will naturally guide you right into Zicoatl's chamber at the very end of the questline. The StrategyZicoatl is a massive, mostly stationary boss, but it fills the room with overlapping lethal mechanics.
- Cap Your Lightning Resistance: This is non-negotiable. Almost all of Zicoatl’s projectile attacks and lasers deal heavy lightning damage. If your lightning resistance isn't capped out, you are going to get instantly deleted.
- Hug the Boss's Backside: Since Zicoatl doesn't move around much, almost all of its deadliest attacks—including its high-damage lasers and snake ground slams—fire directly forward. If you are playing a ranged build, circle-strafe around it constantly. If you are melee, get comfortable dodge-rolling right through its body to stay positioned strictly behind it.
- Run to the Tips of the Red Triangle: Periodically, the boss will project a massive red triangle on the floor that sends violent shockwaves ripping across the room. The sides of this triangle expand and deal massive damage, but there is a trick: the outer tips of the three corners are completely safe. Run directly to one of those points. To give yourself the most room to react to this, try to keep the boss tanked right in the center of the arena.
- Keep Up the Aggression: Zicoatl features a annoying energy shield that recharges if it doesn't take damage for a short period. If you spend too much time running away and playing defensively, its shield will just bounce right back up, dragging the fight out indefinitely. You need to maintain constant pressure, sneaking in hits even while you are dodging.
